Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of coastal communities in environmental conservation at Salopi Beach, Lembang District, Pinrang Regency, focusing on two problems, namely: 1) What is the form of coastal community participation in environmental conservation according to Law (UU) No. 1 of 2014 concerning Management of Coastal Areas and Small Islands? 2) What are the factors that hinder community participation in environmental conservation efforts at Salopi Beach. The method used, this study uses a qualitative approach. The research approach is the entire method or activity carried out by researchers from formulating problems to drawing conclusions. Data management techniques through the stages of observation, interviews and literature to answer the problems in the study. The results of this study indicate that: 1) The form of coastal community participation at Salopi Beach in environmental conservation according to Law (UU) No. 1 of 2014 concerning the management of coastal areas and small islands is not yet fully optimal with a lot of garbage scattered around Salopi Beach and outside Salopi Beach. 2) Factors that hinder community participation in environmental conservation efforts at Salopi Beach are: a. Community mindset that is still dependent on the government, b. Community knowledge and expertise, c. Occupation, d. Education level and illiteracy, e. education about environmental conservation.
